For a locally sourced, fresh ground beef burger, check out JL Beers in Grand Forks. All of their burgers are served on a signature bun, or, as a vegan option, you can swap out the ground beef for either chicken or a black bean burger. Try the Humpty Dumpty Burger with a fried egg and cheese. You can also add bacon and fresh-ground peanut butter, as suggested in their menu. How about giving the Rajun Cajun Burger a try? This one’s topped with pepper jack cheese, Cajun lime sauce, grilled onions, and Cajun seasoning.

A unique option at JL Beers is the Not Just a Nutter Burger, served with fresh peanut butter, red pepper jelly, diced jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, and cottage bacon. Enjoy your burger with a side of fresh-cut fries or chips, Buffalo BLU fries or chips, loaded fries or chips, a salt pretzel, or coleslaw. Add a root beer float to complete your meal. JL Beers is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 2531 S. Columbia Road.

Sickies Garage Burgers & Brew

Freshly prepared burgers can be found at Sickies Garage Burgers & Brew in East Grand Forks, with other North Dakota locations in Fargo and Bismarck. Start your meal off with one of their many appetizers, such as the Tater Kegs or Mac-a-Dilla. Then move on to one of their original burgers served with your choice of side and seasoning. Check out the Chopper, made with two slices of peppered bacon, provolone cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayo. Or try the Hot Rod, which comes with pepper jack cheese, sliced jalapenos, spicy mayo, and buffalo sauce.

Sickies also has signature Kobe burgers made with American Kobe beef and served on a parmesan and pepper bun with waffle fries. Be sure to try the Fatboy, which is topped with pepper jack cheese, peppered bacon, and house-made bacon jam. Or try one of their Supercharged Burgers with your choice of side and seasoning. The Macaroni and Cheese Burger has extra cheesy macaroni and bacon bits. Another favorite is the Smoky Burnout served with smoky meats including bacon, beef brisket, and a burger patty with cheddar cheese and Jameson sauce all piled on top.

Sides include fries, sweet potato fries, tater tots, potato salad, and coleslaw. Or upgrade your side option to onion rings, cheese curds, waffle fries, or even boneless wings. Their seasonings include Cajun, cinnamon sugar, ranch, sea salt, black pepper, and rusty bucket. Add an old-fashioned soda, shake, or malt to make your meal complete. Sickies is located at 131 Demers Ave. and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Crooked Pint Ale House

The Crooked Pint Ale House features freshly ground, all-natural beef from local farms for their Juicy Lucys, which are stuffed burgers, along with their specialty burgers. Burgers are served with a half-pound of pub fries or a side salad. Try the Wrangler Lucy, which comes stuffed with cheddar cheese and jalapenos and is then topped with bacon, haystack onions, cheddar cheese, and bourbon molasses sauce. The Totcho Lucy is stuffed with American cheese and then topped with a smashed jumbo tot, bacon, cheese, green onions, romaine lettuce, and sour cream.

If a stuffed burger seems too over-the-top for you, try the Stars & Stripes specialty burger, an all-American mustard grilled burger topped with bacon, American cheese, sauteed and raw onions, romaine lettuce, sweet pickles, ketchup, and mayo. Another option is the traditional cheeseburger made with American cheese. Crooked Pint is also known for its Totchos and Gigantic Pretzel if you’d like to start your meal off with something shareable. You’ll find the Crooked Pint Ale House at 1930 Columbia Road S. in Grand Forks. They’re open daily from 11 am. to 10 p.m. to satisfy your burger cravings.

Order the Flame Thrower Burger made with Cajun-seasoned beef and then topped with bacon, pepper jack cheese, jalapenos, and Southtown’s special spicy sauce.

Are you brave enough to try the Triple By-Pass Burger? This burger includes two seasoned patties, four slices of cheese, and four slices of bacon and weighs in at two-thirds of a pound.
