There’s no denying how great it is to have a dog in your life. The companionship and friendship our furry friends offer simply can’t be beat. Still, sometimes it can feel like a challenge to make plans knowing you’ll have to either leave your dog home alone or cut certain activities out of your day because those places don’t allow dogs in.

Thankfully, there are a variety of places in our area that do welcome dogs! Let Rydell Honda of Grand Forks show you some of the best local places to check out the next time you want to plan an adventure that includes your pet.

Area Dog Parks

You’ll find two options in the City of Grand Forks if you’re looking for dog parks. Since these parks are dedicated to dogs and created with their needs in mind, they’re perfect when you need a way to enjoy some time outdoors with your pup. Dog parks make it easy to let your dog exercise while giving them some freedom, all while they get to interact with new canine friends.

Lincoln Drive Park

If you already know the Greenway, you know that there’s really something for everyone here. That includes dog owners thanks to Lincoln Drive Park. This off-leash dog park sits west of Belmont Road and 13th Avenue South, providing a safe and legal way to exercise your pet off-leash while still staying in the Grand Forks city limits.

The park boasts two fenced areas in order to accommodate both small and large dogs, making it the perfect place to bring your pet no matter how big or small they are. You can visit the park between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m., so it’s incredibly easy to access, too.

While dogs are allowed off-leash in designated dog areas, keep in mind that they cannot enter other areas if not kept on a leash, and you’ll need to carry a leash at all times. You are also required to leash your dog before entering or leaving the park. If maintenance crews are working in the park, you’ll have to keep your dog leashed as well. You must stay with your dog in the dog park at all times.

Circle of Friends Animal Shelter

You can also use a dog park at the Circle of Friends Animal Shelter. The shelter offers a dog park that is open to the public. This is also an off-leash dog park, though you’ll have to keep your pet on a leash when entering and exiting the play area. The park is open every day from dawn to dusk.

Trails and Green Spaces

Whether you’re into hiking, nature trips, or other ways to enjoy the great outdoors, there’s plenty to do and see close to home. Fortunately, many of these areas are also ideal for dogs.

The Greenway

The Greenway offers so many opportunities for fun for dogs and their human companions, it warrants its own entry. In addition to the off-leash Lincoln Drive Park included within The Greenway, the natural open space translates to a range of ways to enjoy the outdoors, all with your best furry friend in tow.

The Greenway stretches across approximately 2,200 acres, providing outdoor space through the heart of Grand Forks in North Dakota and East Grand Forks in Minnesota. All in all, the area includes several parks, two golf course and three disc golf courses, a campground, shore bank fishing locations, and more than 20 miles of multi-purpose trails. So, when we say you’ll have plenty to keep you and your pet entertained with a visit to The Greenway, we really mean it!

The pet-friendly natural open space makes for a great way to spend a day out with family and friends while you take your dog along with you. Dogs are welcome here as long as you keep them leashed and clean up any messes they leave behind.

Turtle River Nature Trail

Head over to Turtle River State Park, located close to Arvilla, for a great place to walk with your dog. The Turtle River Nature Trail should top your list. This loop trail stretches for 5.6 miles, and it’s rated moderate for walking. A river makes the setting even more picturesque. You can access the trail year-round, and your dog can come along too as long as you keep them on a leash.

Places To Eat and Drink

Searching for a place in town to enjoy a bite to eat or maybe grab a drink? You’re in luck. You’ll find a few dog-friendly spots perfect for relaxing with your human friends while out and about with your pet.

Bully Brew Coffee House

Bully Brew Coffee House takes its name from its founder’s bulldogs, so it’s the place to go for dog lovers who want to indulge in some locally roasted coffee beans and bakery items. You’ll also find puppuccinos here! If you need to take a quick break with your pup, the adjacent green space makes it easy.

Half Brothers Brewing Company

If it’s time for beer instead of coffee, you’ll want to have Half Brothers Brewing Company on your list of places to check out. The downtown Grand Forks brewery features a pet-friendly patio space.

Rhombus Guys Brewing Company

Rhombus Guys Brewing Company is another great place to visit with your pet tagging along. This microbrewery and restaurant in Grand Forks allows you to enjoy a bite and a brew with your dog alongside you at their outdoor tables. The food and drink menus both feature a range of delicious treats (human treats, we mean!), so you’re sure to find something to please everyone in your crowd.
