Thief River Falls was named after its location at the confluence of the Red Lake River and Thief River. The original town site was laid out in 1887, and the settlement officially became a city in 1896. Following the arrival of the Great Northern and Soo Line railroads, it began to prosper as a center for shipping wheat. By 1903, its population had grown to about 3,000.

This road will later become Demers Avenue, but you should continue straight until you come to the intersection with North Washington Street.
