The 2021 Honda Pilot stands out from the crowd when it comes to cargo space and features seating for up to eight. When combined with the exciting lineup of standard and package features for each trim level and its eye-catching exterior, the Pilot is a game-changer in its class. If you’re shopping for a reliable midsize SUV designed for the modern family, you’ll want to consider this Honda option. Let’s take a look at the interior passenger and cargo dimensions of the Pilot, as well as its exterior dimensions.

Great Passenger Space

Not every midsize SUV can boast that three adults can sit comfortably in the third-row seat. The 2021 Pilot has been designed for everyone, from those still in car seats or booster seats to teenagers and adults. It’s an SUV that can grow with your family, featuring up to four LATCH connector seats, depending on which second-row seating you have. With the standard second-row bench seat, the Honda Pilot can seat eight. If you opt for the second-row Captain’s Chairs, seating is reduced to seven. All passengers stay comfortable with the tri-zone automatic climate control that comes standard on all trims.

Front-Row Passenger Space Dimensions

As you’d expect, the front-row seating has the most amount of space, making it comfortable and roomy. The driver and front passenger can enjoy quite a bit of foot room to stretch out on long drives in addition to the space dimensions listed below. It’s not only about space, however. Honda’s attention to detail in the dash and other features makes driving the family-friendly Pilot fun and ideal for parents of any age or anyone looking to bring both people and cargo along on their drives.

Specifications

  • Headroom: 40.1 inches.
  • Legroom: 40.9 inches.
  • Shoulder Room: 62 inches.
  • Hip Room: 59.1 inches.

Second-Row Passenger Space Dimensions

More frequently used than the third-row bench seat, the second-row seating area is quite large, rivaling that of the first-row space. Compare these measurements with the ones above, and you’ll see what we mean. The second-row space can seat three with the standard bench seat. The bench seat also provides three LATCH connections for car seats or booster seats, so if you’re transporting young ones, this standard option may be the best one for you.

Captain’s Chairs come standard with Elite and Black Edition trim levels and are an option on the Touring model. Captain’s Chairs offer seating for only two in this area but provide much more space for those seated here. They also open up additional storage space between the seats.

Specifications

  • Headroom: 40.2 inches.
  • Legroom: 38.4 inches.
  • Shoulder Room: 62 inches.
  • Hip Room: 57.3 inches.

Third-Row Passenger Space Dimensions

Even though space gets a little smaller when you get to the third-row seating area, it still provides ample room to seat three adults, or perhaps three teenagers and their gear. One of the LATCH connectors is located in the third row on the passenger side, providing even more seating options for large families. In addition to comfortable seating, the 2021 Honda Pilot offers an optional rear entertainment system, so those in the back don’t get bored.

Specifications

  • Headroom: 38.9 inches.
  • Legroom: 31.9 inches.
  • Shoulder Room: 57.6 inches.
  • Hip Room: 44.6 inches.

A Carload of Cargo

While the passenger space is impressive, the Pilot is the pack leader when it comes to its cargo area space by volume. It features one of the largest cargo areas than nearly all of the other midsize SUVs in its class. Accessing the rear cargo area is easy with a hands-free liftgate, which is standard on all Special Edition, Touring, Elite, and Black Edition trim levels. A power liftgate comes standard on the EX-L and is available as an option on lower trims.

A handy storage compartment under the cargo floor maximizes the use of space behind the third-row seats. The cargo area also features tie-down anchors and hooks for bags and garments so you can keep your items stowed securely and safely. The amount of cargo space available is dependent mainly on the seat configuration you’re using so you can leverage the available space for both cargo and passengers.

Additional storage spaces are strategically located throughout the cabin and include seatback pockets, a holder for your sunglasses, and a lockable glovebox, and for those that need it, the PIlot can tow larger cargo.

Behind Third-Row Seats

  • Seats Up: 16.5 cubic feet.
  • Seats Down: 18.5 cubic feet.

Behind Second-Row Seats

  • Seats Up: 46.8 cubic feet.
  • Seats Down: 55.9 cubic feet.

Behind First-Row Seats

  • Seats Up: 83.9 cubic feet.
  • Seats Down: 109 cubic feet.

Honda Pilot Exterior Dimensions

The Honda Pilot is a true midsize SUV in terms of exterior dimensions, although you wouldn’t believe it based on those passenger and cargo space measurements. This makes the Pilot an excellent choice for those who need room for both people and cargo but prefer a midsize SUV scale over something larger. The size has several benefits over a larger vehicle, such as better fuel mileage and easier “piloting” for new drivers if there’s a family member just learning to drive. If that’s the case, you’ll want to check out the 2021 Honda Pilot safety features as well.

2021 Honda Pilot Exterior Measurements

  • Wheelbase: 111 inches.
  • Length: 196.5 inches.
  • Height: 70.6 inches.
  • Width: 78.6 inches.
