It's time to introduce the 2021 Honda CR-V, a crossover that's as stylish as it is capable. The CR-V offers a spacious cabin with the latest technology to keep you connected regardless of where your busy day takes you. You also get Honda Sensing, a suite of driver-assist systems designed to keep you safer. Let's take a closer look at the 2021 Honda CR-V.

Engine Options

A 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine powers the CR-V. This engine has dual overhead cams and 16 valves with direct fuel injection technology. Honda pairs this engine with a continuously variable transmission for smooth shifting and power on demand. This powertrain delivers 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque.

The hybrid CR-V uses a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine and an Atkinson Cycle synchronous permanent-magnet electric motor. It comes with a lithium-ion battery. Honda pairs this engine/motor combination with an electronic continuously variable transmission. The hybrid powertrain gives you a total system of 212 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque.

Both engines feature an auto-disconnect fuel injection system that stops the fuel pump when an accident occurs.

Does the CR-V Come in AWD?

Every trim has the option of Honda's Real-Time all-wheel-drive system. All-wheel-drive comes standard on the hybrid powertrain. The Real-Time AWD system uses sensors to determine when to send power to the rear wheels. Honda tested the CR-V's ability to tackle challenging terrain in the Mojave Desert.

The CR-V uses a multi-link rear suspension with a rear stabilizer bar and a MacPherson strut front suspension and front stabilizer bar. These systems help reduce body roll for tight cornering and deliver a smooth ride.

CR-V Drive Modes

Multiple drive modes let you dial in your throttle, suspension, and steering to match the road conditions. The Sport mode offers the most thrilling driving experience. ECON mode helps you drive more efficiently. The hybrid powertrain offers an EV mode for all-electric power.

Every CR-V comes with Honda's Eco Assist. This system displays a green light on the driver information cluster when you're driving efficiently. It shows blue or white when there's room for improvement. In this way, you can learn how to drive for optimal efficiency.

Hill-start assist comes with every trim, eliminating roll-back by keeping the brakes engaged while your foot moves to the accelerator. Active Noise Cancellation technology uses cabin sealing and acoustic-laminated glass to block unwanted engine and road noise.

Exterior Style

This crossover's modern styling comes through in the bold front fascia's gloss black grille framed by LED headlights. Standard LED fog lights are set low and wide for optimal effect. Bulging fenders highlight the wide stance. The CR-V's sculpted side-body and available 19-inch machine-finished alloy wheels with gray inserts give the CR-V an athletic profile. Roof rails with available crossbars let you carry bikes, skis, roof boxes, and more.

Stylish smoked-out LED taillights and unique style make the bodywork even more impressive. A rear spoiler mounted high on the tailgate features an integrated brake light. The dual chrome exhaust tips complete the bold rear fascia. Every trim but the LX gets the one-touch power moonroof. The moonroof opens fully for maximum airflow or tilts for less air.

CR-V Accessories

Accessorizing your CR-V with Honda Genuine Accessories goes beyond roof rails with crossbars. You can add running boards, cargo nets, floor mats, cargo mats, protective seat covers, and more.

Trim Levels

You get to choose between the LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring trims. The EX, EX-L, and Touring offer a hybrid powertrain option. A power tailgate with height adjustment memory and hands-free operation comes standard on the EX-L and Touring trims. The LX rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels, while the EX and EX-L trims upgrade to 18-inch wheels. Only the Touring trim comes with 19-inch wheels.

The EX, EX-L, and Touring trims have Honda's Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock system. The doors unlock as you approach your CR-V with the key fob in your pocket. When you shut off your CR-V, exit, and walk away, and the system automatically locks the doors for you.

Interior Comfort

A single-zone climate control system comes standard on the LX, while the upper trims have a dual-zone. The LX and EX trims have cloth seats. The EX-L and Touring trim upgrade to leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with heating, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. The Touring trim adds ventilation to the front seats.

In-Vehicle Technology

A 7-inch infotainment screen with touch and pinch-zoom capability operates your in-vehicle technology. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity let you sync your smart devices for hands-free operation. Bluetooth technology allows you to wirelessly stream your favorite music. The infotainment system has built-in SiriusXM, HD radio, and Pandora. A nine-speaker audio system with a subwoofer delivers clear sound.

The wireless charging pad in front and USB ports throughout the cabin keep all your devices charged. By downloading the HondaLink app to your smartphone, you can track vehicle diagnostics, schedule service, remotely lock or unlock, and remotely start your CR-V.

Standard Honda Sensing

Honda Sensing, a suite of driver-assist systems, comes standard on every CR-V. The suite includes a Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) that monitors the road ahead for possible hazards. In some cases, the CMBS provides additional brake support to help avoid a potential accident.

A blind-spot information system and a cross-traffic monitor use sensors to detect vehicles in your blind spots and sides, so you can change lanes or back up with confidence. You get a road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist systems as well.

The 2021 Honda CR-V delivers an efficient ride. It's a versatile SUV with a comfortable interior and the latest tech to keep you connected during your travel. At Rydell Honda of Grand Forks, we know how a capable SUV can improve life. That's why we stock the largest inventory of CR-V SUVs in the area.

All About the Honda Real-Time AWD

The Honda Real Time All-Wheel Drive (AWD) System uses innovative technology to enhance your Honda's traction, control, and performance. When the system detects a change in road conditions, it redirects torque to the rear axle to regain traction. Keeping you safe on changing road conditions, the Honda Real-Time AWD engages your car's rear differential when it senses a loss of traction virtually instantaneously. This takes a front-wheel-drive vehicle and diverts torque to the rear wheels, giving you increased traction and stability. Do you enjoy getting a bit of mud on your tires, exploring the road less traveled, or adding a bit of adventure to your road trip? Do you prioritize safety when looking for a new vehicle? Then the Honda Real Time AWD System was made for you! more What is All-Wheel Drive? If you've never had an All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) vehicle, then most likely, you're used to front-wheel-drive cars. This means the power and stability are confined to your front two wheels, limiting how your vehicle handles in variable road and weather conditions. In front-wheel-drive vehicles, the engine's power is restricted to the front of the car. If your daily commute is sunshine and smooth roads, chances are you haven't considered the importance of AWD. However, even the most excellent drives can change suddenly. Changing road conditions and rainy or snowy weather can turn your predictable commute into a more scary experience. AWD engages your rear tires to provide traction, stability, and security. Especially in areas like Grand Forks, where weather patterns can change, and winter can make roads slick, AWD is essential. While some AWD systems require a great deal of input from the driver, the Honda Real Time AWD System is intelligent, reactive, and uses computer software to read the roads for you. How Does the Honda Real Time AWD System Work? The Honda Real Time AWD System employs an innovative Intelligent Control System to judge when differential should be engaged on the rear tires to prevent loss of traction. Intending to reduce energy and fuel consumption, this smart system only engages when needed, typically when there's a change in road conditions or inclement weather. By engaging the rear tires, the AWD system spreads the engine's power equally on all four tires so that the rear tires can push you forward even if the front tires slip. To keep you safe, here are a few times that the Honda Real Time AWD System will be engaged. The AWD System will engage on take-off if you're on a slippery surface where traction is reduced. It disengages once the car reaches a cruising velocity, as it's no longer required. If you go uphill and the vehicle registers change in traction, it will engage the Real-Time AWD again. It's important to note that this system reacts almost instantaneously, and you may not even feel the change! Traditional AWD systems often experience a lag, and even a noticeable shift, before fully engaging. The Honda Real Time AWD System is a tremendous advancement in technology, which makes your journey smoother and safer. Is Honda Real Time AWD the Right Choice for Me? Honda Real-Time AWD turns your normally front-wheel-drive Honda into an all-wheel-drive vehicle, but only when it's needed. This means your car will run as a standard front-wheel-drive vehicle otherwise and provides you with that extra level of safety, security, and reliability that Honda is known for. So, who should consider the Honda Real Time AWD System? Living in Grand Forks, where weather patterns change regularly, such as rain, sleet, or snow, the Real-Time AWD System is essential. This is especially true as we approach winter and all the weather that comes with it. A lot of areas have rough road conditions during inclement weather, and it's essential to keep you and your family safe on the road. If you enjoy taking side roads, getting off the highway, and exploring, this is also an essential system for you. Even if you drive the same road every day, commuting to and from work, having an AWD System could be a lifesaver (literally!). Real-Time AWD gives you confidence when driving your vehicle, especially in winter conditions. Weather and road quality changes can happen quickly, so we highly recommend the Honda Real Time AWD System for anyone! Which Honda Models Can Be Equipped with Honda Real Time AWD? So you're thinking of getting a Honda with the Real-Time AWD System, but you don't know where to start. This will keep you from unnecessarily using extra fuel to move forward. This system is truly a game-changer for Grand Forks residents. Will the Honda CRV be redesigned in 2022?

At Rydell Honda of Grand Forks, we love the CR-V. It's just what so many of our buyers need: the right balance of comfort, utility, value, and fun. Since its debut in 1997, the Honda CR-V has only grown in quality and popularity. The compact SUV is now one of the most popular vehicle styles in the world. Honda has taken everything it knows about making desirable, reliable cars and made the perfect compact family ride. Through five generations, the CR-V has continued to evolve, adding technology and innovation at every redesign. Wondering what the future holds for this vehicle? Exciting things are rumored for 2022 and 2023. Honda engineers are working to make the best even better. A brand new CR-V model is on the horizon. We don't know a lot yet, but we can speculate on what changes might be in the works. What's good that we'd never change? What improvements would you want? What is your wild side saying? more Looking Back Image via Flickr by Janitors via CC BY 2.0 Sometimes the best way to predict the future is to look to the past CR-V specs and figures. What can we learn about previous model releases that might give us hints? The fifth generation brought a suite of modern safety features to the CR-V. We'll likely see an advanced version of the Honda Sensing system available on the new Accord. It features smarter-than-ever collision mitigation, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and even traffic sign recognition. The next CR-V will be a safer place than ever for your family. In 2015, we saw the continuously variable transmission (CVT) come to the CR-V. The system was borrowed from the ninth-generation Accord. While CVTs in general have been frowned upon by many auto enthusiasts, many critics consider Honda's to be the best around. A well-built CVT delivers seamless power from stop to freeway. It never shifts; it's always in the power band. Will the 2022-23 CR-V see another transmission innovation? The third-generation CR-V, launched in 2006, was the first to see USB ports and Bluetooth. We can expect that plus Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in the upcoming model, but how can the sixth generation do something special with infotainment? Maybe it can expand on some of the family features from the Odyssey? Wireless charging, at least in the front, seems like a guarantee. Spy Shots What's more exciting than a prototype with the badges covered by camouflage? Test drivers try to be sneaky, but automotive spies are always on the lookout. So what have sneak peaks of the new CR-V revealed? Early reports show the new version is larger than before. It's longer overall with a stretched hood and rear overhang, looking a bit lower and sleeker to the eye. The extra space may accommodate an optional third row. It certainly will allow more passenger and cargo space. The trapezoidal grille is more prominent on the newest model. The rear lights are now horizontal rather than vertical, creating a less boxy look. Considering the Accord and Civic were recently redesigned, the new CR-V will likely borrow much from both. It will likely share a platform with the Honda Civic, which is excellent. No doubt the CR-V will be springier as a result. Spy shots also show lots of Accord styling on the front end and the dash. The infotainment screen shares a similar design, so Honda will probably keep it for the SUV, too. Possible Engines for the 2022 CR-V AS it turns out, 2020 may have already told us what we need to know about what will be under the hood of the next generation CR-V. Last year Honda dropped its 2.4-liter engine in favor of a 1.5-liter turbo-charged inline four-cylinder engine that delivers 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. Not missing the extra displacement, critics were impressed by the power, lack of lag, and fuel efficiency. That same year, Honda debuted a hybrid CR-V that combines an electric motor with a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle turbo four-cylinder to provide 212 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque combined. It's very likely that both the 1.5-liter and the hybrid will continue into 2022. We'd love to see the next generation CR-V get the Civic Type R treatment. Think about wringing 306 horsepower out of a 2.0-liter engine? Imagine lowering the CR-V a bit and borrowing the Type R's four-wheel independent suspension. Why not blow open the CR-V's practical reputation? Life is too short to not have a CR-V Type R. What Do the People Want? Whatever the year or car, many people have the same desires. They want power without sacrificing fuel economy. The 1.5-liter and hybrid are both good choices already, but they can be improved. A larger battery and electric motor on the hybrid would take more pressure off the gas side, further improving fuel efficiency. Yet people always want to be able to zoom, providing a desire for Honda's racing blood in every vehicle. The CR-V has always been the conservative kid. Maybe it's time for a fun version. Many families want three rows, and Honda seems ready to deliver. It launched a three-row version at the Geneva Auto Show in 2018. On a new stretched frame, seating six to seven in a CR-V would be easy, and it would be a great seller. A panoramic moon roof would be a lovely option, and a more robust climate control system is likely in the works. At Rydell Honda of Grand Forks, we've been selling new and used vehicles of all makes for nearly 70 years. Buyers from both sides of the North Dakota/Minnesota border trust us to navigate the ever-shifting world of new cars. Year after year, Honda has delivered machines big and small that love to do their jobs without stopping. The CR-V is one of our favorites because it fits the lives of active people and families so well. And the CR-V keeps getting better. New, used, or future, Rydell has the right CR-V configuration for you. Contact us for any questions, and stay tuned for more news about the latest Honda models.
